ASTC, Ideum, and Independent Exhibitions hosted several Advisory Committee workshops in which potential end-users of the site got together, developed different ideas for site content and design, and critiqued conceptual design models.

The idea for ExhibitFiles grew from a need for dissemination of past and current exhibition work, and for professionalizing the field. We started with the idea of an online archives of exhibitions, but quickly realized that the web could also provide a home for a community of exhibition makers.
